Heart-Touching Events: A Call to Humility and Love

Today, we are invited to enter deeply into one of the most profound and moving moments of our faith—the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a story we may have heard many times, yet it never loses its power to touch our hearts.

The Passion narrative, according to Matthew, unfolds step by step, revealing the depth of Christ’s love. At the Last Supper, he gives us the Eucharist, offering his body and blood as a lasting gift. Yet even in that sacred moment, betrayal is already at work—Judas hands him over, and Peter, one of his closest companions, denies even knowing him.

In the Garden of Gethsemane, we witness Jesus in agony, praying with all his heart. He feels the weight of what is to come, yet he surrenders completely: “Not my will, but yours be done.” How often do we struggle to say those same words in our own lives?

From there, the suffering intensifies. Jesus is arrested, falsely accused, and brought before the authorities. He is questioned, mocked, and condemned. The crowd is given a choice—Barabbas or Jesus—and they choose to release a criminal, while the innocent Son of God is handed over to be crucified.

He is beaten, ridiculed, and forced to carry his cross through the streets. Imagine the loneliness of that journey. The one who healed the sick and comforted the broken now walks alone, abandoned and rejected by the very world he came to save.

At Golgotha, the suffering reaches its climax. Jesus is nailed to the cross and lifted up for all to see. Even in his final moments, he is mocked and insulted. Yet he does not respond with anger or hatred; instead, he offers forgiveness, love, and mercy.

Then, in silence, he bows his head and gives up his spirit.

Brothers and sisters, this is not just a story of suffering—it is a story of love. A love so deep that it holds nothing back; a love that chooses sacrifice for the sake of others; a love that invites each of us to transformation.

As we reflect on these heart-touching events, the Passion narrative challenge us with some reflective questions that lead us toward the joy of the Resurrection:

  • When I look at Jesus entering Jerusalem in humility, do I truly welcome Him as King of my life—or only when it is convenient for me?
  • As I listen to the Passion, where do I see myself in the story?

Am I like Judas who betrays, Peter who denies, the crowd that turns away, or the disciple who remains faithful?

  • This Holy Week, am I willing to walk with Jesus—not just in celebration, but also in sacrifice and surrender?
  • As I hold the palm branch, will I continue to follow Christ faithfully, or will I, like the crowd, forget him when the moment passes?
  • Will I allow this Passion to transform my heart… so that I may truly share in the joy of the Resurrection?

May the Passion of our Lord stir our hearts, renew our spirits, and lead us closer to the One who gave everything for us.
